I have heard of the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! on the interwebs, all I knew was that he is a Monster hunter with sorceress girlfriends in a Medieval Europe based fantasy continent.
But ever since !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for the 2019 Netflix series, I was curious to learn more. I have been watching a few lore +games explained videos and finally decided to start from the 3rd game directly and watch it like a movie because it was highly rated and popular. I am a sucker for good medieval fantasy after all.
I am about half way through and the story is very interesting, and so are the characters. The game itself seems to be visually striking with some great monster designs and I love that it doesn’t hold back with the Mature rating. I’d probably not play it myself though because I am a very casual gamer (and bad at that), The only games I’ve played consistently are racing, flight sims and AOE2.
Just putting it out there to see if anyone else has played the game/read the books. Anyway here’s the link in case anyone’s interested:

I never got around to the first Witcher game, but I beat 2 two and a half times (complete, other complete, halfway point save complete), and put a couple hundred hours into 3. I collected all the gwent cards, if that tells you anything. All something like 150.
I didn't do multiple plays of blood and wine because I was annoyed that some of the cheevos glitched. I recommend it and hearts of stone, though.

Hah! You’re hardcore. Awesome! Those 2 are the expansions right, might check out the game movies of both.

Absolute masterpiece of a game. There are many different choices you can make that impact the events of the game. I don’t need to see the video, since I’ve beat the game myself a couple of times, but I imagine that they could make 2 or 3 distinct cuts of the ‘ movie’ with some variations between them.

Witcher 3 is supposed to be great, but I played the first one some, and was very unimpressed, and it has left me completely unmotivated to try 2 or 3. Their new Cyberpunk game looks interesting, so maybe if I play that and it’s good, I’ll give the Witcher another chance.

There aren’t that many games I psychotically 100% like the mass effects (all 3), fallout 3, and new Vegas, these days, but I got closeish with Witcher 3.
Actually I'm kind of psychotically 100%ing remastered l.a. noire now on One and dragon's dogma, but I don't really intend a true 100% in the second. And I don't do it that much compared with how I used to.

I did a similar thing for Final Fantasy VII. Never got around to playing the game, and didn’t feel like slogging through all the levels myself. But I still wanted to experience the story in full, and YouTube provided a way to do just that.

I’ve only played #3 in the Witcher series. It’s fantastic. Might have to play through it again soon. Great writing, great stories, a ton of freedom to do what you want and go where you want. No complaints.

LOL nice. I’m sure the game makes more sense going through it more thoroughly than that haha.

Play it on
easy mode my man :) I just recently finished the game and I've read the books too. It's good stuff, a master class on game design. The blood and wine expansion blew me away.

Nah, I suck at video games except maybe racing.it would only frustrate me, although it would be hilarious to watch me fail though.I am already half way through. BTW, watched the Blood and Wine trailer. There is a 5 hour game movie, watching that next :)

Suit yourself. Blood and Wine is seriously something. I was freaking over all this crazy little stuff, like how a character who’s not from Toussaint wouldn’t mention it, but their accent and
their fashion
was clearly different.
And there are a bunch of small quests in there that should be garbage - go here, talk to some lady, come back. But they aren’t garbage, they’re wrapped up in all this characterization and stories that make them pull your heart strings. You can really see the roots lie in books, where characterization is key. It’s something most RPGs won’t do nearly as well, Skyrim is hollow by comparison.
I was playing the game from about Feb 2017 until a month or two ago just finishing all the quests for a single play through. Kept me going.
